  • Rossendale Harriers

2. The Series:

Unless decided otherwise by a majority vote of the Participating Clubs, each year the Series will consist of 11 races decided at a meeting between representatives of the Participating Clubs (“the Series”). At least 5 Qualifying Results are required to complete the Series.

3. Second Claim Members:

Any Participating Club may exclude second claim members from participating in the Grand Prix (e.g. to encourage first claim membership) by notifying the lead results compiler of that fact, together with the names of the excluded second claim members, before the first race in the series.

4. Categories:

Each year, an athlete’s age on the date of the first race (14/03/26) in the Series determines their age category for the whole year, even if they do not run in that race.

There are 26 possible categories:
  • Junior Ladies and Men (U23)
  • Senior Ladies and Men (SEN)

  • 55 to 59 year old Ladies and Men (V55)
  • 60 to 64 year old Ladies and Men (V60)
  • 65 to 69 year old Ladies and Men (V65)
  • 70 to 74 year old Ladies and Men (V70)

Scoring

5. Qualifying Results:
  • In order for an athlete’s result in a race to be included in the results and for it to be a Qualifying Result, the athlete must:
    • (i) be a first or second claim member of a Participating Club on the day of the race and represent that Club in the race, as shown in the final results, and not be excluded by Rule 3 above;
    • (ii) wear an official Club race top for the Participating Club they represent at the race;
    • (iii) be old enough to run the distance of the race, as defined by FRA rules;
    • (iv) run under their own number such that they appear in the published results.
6. Points Allocation:
  • The first 50 Qualifying Results in each category will score points towards that category: 50 for 1st, 49 for 2nd, 48 for 3rd, 47 for 47th, ...., 1 for 50th and 0 for 51st and over.
  • Points are allocated according to the athlete’s finishing position in the final race results compared to other Qualifying Results. Where chip timing is used in a race, chip positions are used not gun positions.
7. Completing the Series:
  • To complete the Series and qualify for an award or memento, athletes need at least 5 Qualifying Results in the Series. If an athlete has more than 5 Qualifying Results, the best 5 will count.
  • In the event of a points tie from the best 5 races, the athlete with best head-to-head performance will win.
    If there is still a tie, the athlete with the highest total points from their Qualifying Results will win.
    If there is still a tie after considering, points from best 5 races, head-to-head records and total points scored, then it shall be deemed to be a draw.

8. Maximum of 1 trophy:
  • A maximum of 1 trophy will be given to each athlete obtaining at least 5 Qualifying Results.
  • For example, if a MV55 is second in the men’s Open Category and wins the MV55-59 Veteran Category, he would receive a trophy only for his 2nd place in the men’s Open Category (and not for his 1st place in the MV55 category).
    The second-placed MV55 would remain as second placed MV55.
  • No more than 3 athletes in a category shall be awarded a trophy.
9. Everyone gets something:

A memento will be awarded to athletes from Participating Clubs who obtain at least 5 Qualifying Results but do not qualify for a ‘top 3’ overall/category trophy.

10. Ladies’ and Men’s Team:

The top 3 female and male athletes, based on their open category score at each race, will score for their respective ladies' and men's club team.

11. Dispute Resolution:

If a dispute cannot be resolved easily by reference to the above rules then the matter shall be referred to the Grand Prix Committee whose decision shall be final.

Notes

  • A competitor may only run in their permitted age category.
  • Points are allocated according to the positions (not times) in the final race results.
  • Under U.K.A. rules there cannot be a tie in a fell race; the finish line marshal is a judge of fact and their decision is final.
  • Note that FRA distance restrictions will apply at some races to runners aged under 18.
